Clinical Focus

Targeted Cardiovascular

Restoration

Our Functional Cardiology program is designed for those who seek clinical clarity beyond the limitations of a standard lipid panel. We provide a sophisticated diagnostic lens for patients navigating complex cardiovascular challenges, shifting the focus from reactive management to proactive restoration.

We specialize in the evaluation and resolution of:
  • Advanced Lipid Dysregulation

In-depth analysis of elevated LDL Cholesterol, ApoB, Lp(a), and particle size and number.

  • Hypertension & Endothelial Health

Addressing the underlying vascular triggers of persistent high blood pressure.

  • Early Coronary Artery Disease

Precision strategies for the stabilization and reversal of early-stage plaque.

  • Complex Arrhythmia & Palpitations

Investigating the metabolic, electrolyte, and autonomic drivers of heart rhythm concerns.

  • Metabolic & Inflammatory Risk

Identifying the systemic silent markers that standard screenings routinely overlook.

Your numbers are a symptom. Our mission is to identify the cause. Every consultation begins with a deep synthesis of your biological data to build a roadmap for a resilient, high-performance heart.

Conditions We Evaluate

Do you recognize your condition below?

Dr. Campanile evaluates each of these through the lens of functional cardiology, examining the metabolic, inflammatory, and genetic drivers that standard panels were never designed to detect.

Heart Palpitations & Arrhythmia

  • Heart racing or skipping beats with no clear explanation
  • Pounding heartbeat that wakes you up at night
  • Fluttering in the chest that comes and goes randomly
  • EKG or Holter came back normal but symptoms persist
  • Anxiety ruled out but the episodes continue

High Blood Pressure & Hypertension

  • Blood pressure elevated despite medication or lifestyle changes
  • Readings that vary widely and no one has explained why
  • Headaches, vision changes, or fatigue tied to blood pressure spikes
  • Diagnosed young and never given a root cause explanation
  • Family history of hypertension and no proactive plan in place

Cholesterol, LDL, ApoB, Lp(a)

  • Told your cholesterol is borderline but given no clear direction
  • On a statin but unsure if it is actually working or necessary
  • LDL looks normal but you still feel like something is off
  • Family history of high cholesterol with no deeper investigation
  • Confused by conflicting information about diet and heart risk

Chest Pain & Coronary Artery Disease

  • Chest tightness or pressure that comes and goes
  • Shortness of breath during activity that did not used to happen
  • Stress test was normal but symptoms have not resolved
  • Early family history of heart attack or sudden cardiac death
  • Want to know your actual plaque burden before symptoms escalate

Metabolic Syndrome & Insulin Resistance

  • Weight gaining around the midsection despite consistent effort
  • Blood sugar trending up but not yet diabetic and no one is acting on it
  • Triglycerides elevated and HDL on the lower end
  • Energy crashes after meals or persistent afternoon fatigue
  • Labs flagged but primary care said to just watch and wait

Inflammation & Cardiovascular Risk

  • Labs look fine but your risk does not feel fine
  • hsCRP or other inflammatory markers flagged with no follow up
  • History of autoimmune condition and concerned about heart impact
  • Want to understand your real cardiovascular risk beyond a cholesterol number
  • No cardiac event yet but a strong sense that prevention is overdue

Why CorAeon

Functional cardiology rooted in science, lifestyle, and evidence.

Our Functional Cardiology program is designed to uncover the root cause of your cardiovascular concerns through advanced diagnostics, physician-led analysis, and personalized lifestyle protocols.

Area of Care

Standard Practice

CorAeon Approach

Lipid Testing Depth

x Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides. Rarely looks beyond the basic panel.

ApoB, Lp(a), LDL particle number, sdLDL, and oxidized LDL for a complete atherogenic risk picture.

Cardiac Imaging

x Standard stress test or echocardiogram ordered after symptoms appear.

Advanced imaging including echocardiogram and cardiac stress testing, ordered when clinically indicated rather than by default.

Cleerly AI Coronary Scan

x Rarely ordered proactively. Most practices wait for symptoms or a positive stress test before investigating plaque burden.

Cleerly AI coronary CTA evaluated by Dr. Campanile to detect, quantify, and characterize coronary plaque before symptoms develop.

Treatment Priority

x Medications prescribed first. Lifestyle guidance offered briefly and rarely monitored.

Evidence-based lifestyle, nutrition, and sleep intervention as first-line treatment, with medications layered only when indicated.

Appointment Time

x Typically 15 minutes with a physician, often managed between visits by nursing staff.

Every visit is physician-led and runs 60 to 90 minutes. Enough time to actually understand your case and answer your questions.

Your Path Forward

Four steps to your first functional cardiology visit, in person or virtual.

No referral required. New patients are typically seen within one to two weeks of booking. Each step is designed to uncover what is driving your cardiovascular risk and build a plan that actually changes your cardiovascular trajectory.

1

Initial Consultation

A dedicated 60 to 90 minute physician visit with Dr. Campanile to review your symptoms, history, prior testing, and cardiovascular risk factors in full. We listen before we order anything.

2

Advanced Diagnostics

Targeted lab work, imaging, and functional assessments selected for your specific cardiovascular picture. No generic panels ordered by default.

3

Protocol Design

A structured, written plan built around your results, your lifestyle, and your goals. Specific, measurable, and designed to be followed.

4

Patient Reviews

Real patients. Real results.

These are first-hand accounts from patients across New Jersey and New York who came to CorAeon having already seen a conventional cardiologist, and found something meaningfully different here.

I had been told my cholesterol was borderline for three years. No one ever mentioned ApoB or particle testing. Dr. Campanile ran a full advanced panel and found exactly what was driving my risk. For the first time I had a real number to work toward, not a vague recommendation to eat better.

Michael R.Patient, Livingston NJ

I came in with palpitations my previous doctor dismissed as anxiety. Within two appointments we had identified a magnesium deficiency and a pattern driving the irregular beats. The palpitations resolved within six weeks. I wish I had come here sooner.

Lauren T.Patient, Short Hills NJ

My father had his first heart attack at 56. I came to CorAeon at 44 wanting to know my actual risk, not a percentage from a calculator. The Cleerly scan showed early plaque that no standard stress test would have caught. Now I have a plan. That peace of mind is worth everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions, answered honestly.

What is functional cardiology and how is it different from regular cardiology?

Functional cardiology investigates the root causes of cardiovascular disease rather than treating symptoms after they appear. A standard cardiologist is trained to diagnose and manage active cardiac conditions, typically in 15-minute insurance-driven visits. Functional cardiology at CorAeon uses advanced diagnostics including ApoB, Lp(a), inflammatory markers, and coronary plaque imaging to identify why cardiovascular risk develops, then builds a personalized plan that addresses those drivers through nutrition, lifestyle intervention, and targeted medical treatment. Every appointment at CorAeon is physician-led with dedicated time.

Do I need a referral to see a functional cardiologist in New Jersey?

No referral is required. CorAeon is a private, cash-pay practice in Caldwell, NJ, which means you can schedule a consultation directly without authorization from a primary care physician or insurance approval. Virtual consultations are available for patients in New Jersey, New York, and Florida. If you have prior records, labs, or imaging, we encourage you to bring them, but they are not required to get started.

What lab tests are included in a functional cardiology evaluation?

A foundational functional cardiology evaluation at CorAeon typically includes an advanced lipid panel with ApoB, Lp(a), LDL particle number, and subfractions; inflammatory markers including hsCRP and Lp-PLA2; metabolic markers including fasting insulin and HOMA-IR; thyroid function; a complete metabolic panel; and nutrient levels relevant to cardiac health including magnesium. Additional markers are ordered based on your history, symptoms, and initial findings. This panel goes significantly beyond what is ordered in a standard cardiology or primary care visit.

Does CorAeon accept insurance for cardiology appointments?

CorAeon does not bill insurance directly for physician appointments. As a private, cash-pay practice, this model allows us to spend significantly more time with each patient, order diagnostics that are genuinely indicated rather than pre-authorized, and provide the level of access and follow-up that insurance-based practices cannot sustain. Lab work and imaging may carry separate costs. Some patients choose to submit superbills to their insurance independently for potential partial reimbursement. HSA and FSA funds are typically applicable.

What is ApoB and why does it matter more than standard cholesterol testing?

ApoB is a protein that coats every atherogenic particle in your blood, including LDL, VLDL, and IDL. Unlike standard LDL-C, which measures the cholesterol content of particles, ApoB counts the actual number of particles capable of entering arterial walls and contributing to plaque. Research consistently shows ApoB is a stronger predictor of cardiovascular events than LDL-C alone, particularly in patients with insulin resistance, elevated triglycerides, or metabolic syndrome. At CorAeon, ApoB is included in every foundational cardiovascular evaluation.

Can I see a cardiologist virtually in New Jersey, New York, or Florida?

Yes. CorAeon offers HIPAA compliant virtual consultations for patients in New Jersey, New York, and Florida. Virtual patients complete lab work at a local draw facility near them, meet with Dr. Campanile via secure video, and receive the same physician-authored protocol as every in-person patient. In-person visits are available at our private clinic at 14 Smull Ave, Caldwell, NJ.
